The Midnight Sun Fly In is held at the Wardair floatbase on Back Bay as indicated by an "X" on the diagram opposite. Pilots should advise the YZF tower that they will be landing on Back Bay. The strobe light on Pilot's Monument must be activated to alert boats when aircraft are arriving or departing the waterdrome. The strobe is activated by depressing mic 3 times on 119.5 at 2 miles final or 45 seconds prior to takeoff.
The YZF tower will give provide the wind direction at the airport. Wind direction may vary a bit on Back Bay, so pilots should assess water and wind conditions on approach and advise the tower of intended approach and landing direction. There are no reefs or other obstructions but there is often sail and power boat traffic.
Upon landing, pilots must report down and clear and should then taxi in to the Fly In site which can be identified by a large white tent on the dock. The YZF tower will advise of a ground frequency through which Fly In crew will provide directions to assigned parking spots. Volunteers will be available to assist with docking.
